Celebrating World Lupus Day, SDF launching Lupus Exercise to the World

SDF (Syamsi Dhuha Foundation), non-profit NGO caring for Odapus (People with Lupus) never stops trying to improve life quality of Odapus in Indonesia and  always involves in international movements to provide safe and effective Lupus therapies. In Celebrating Word Lupus Day, tomorrow SDF is launching for the first time ever: Lupus Exercise. “We are moved to create and facilitate Odapus with Lupus Exercise that they wish to have for such a long time. Working together with volunteers from FPOK (Faculty of Sport and Physical Education) UPI (Indonesia University of Education) as choreographers and Imam Pras as music arranger, Lupus Exercise was created. This exercise is available for Odapus all over the world through the link: https://youtu.be/1cuQk33EmlE. We will keep on trying to make improvement, most important is a courage to create something new“, explained Dian Syarief, SDF’s Chair who is also a Lupus & Low Vision survivor. “90% of Odapus in the world comprises of women in productive age between 15-45, with different manifestations of Lupus and among other is joint pain and stiffness. One of SDF efforts in improving general condition of Odapus is by creating this Execise for Lupus which can be done at home routinely”, added Dian.

The launching of this Exercise for Lupus will be carried out after the health seminar “Lupus Tak Kenal Batas” (Lupus Knows no Boundaries) that was held by RSUP Hasan Sadikin (RSHS) in colaboration with SDF. The seminar will be attended by more than 100 participants, featuring 2 speakers: Andri Reza Rahmadi, dr. SpPD KR MKes ‘Living healthy with Lupus from Medical Perspectives’ and Dian Syarief who will share her life experiences ‘Learning the Happiness Living with Lupus’.

Andri Reza Rahmadi, dr. SpPD KR MKes, a doctor concerns about Lupus of RSHS explained: “Up until now, we need to introduce the existence of Lupus to our community. In Indonesia, there are more than 400,000 people who suffer from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) or known as Lupus. Lupus knows no boundaries, anyone can suffer from lupus, despite the age, gender, nationality or ethnicity. Although the symptoms emerge sometimes not clear and not easily recognize and most of the time mistakenly identify for other disease, by using test yourself for Lupus, the early symptoms of this disease can be detected. Early detection and accurate handling are the most important steps for Lupus therapy. Therefore, we have to care and understand about it to cure Lupus. Lupus is a disease that relates to autoimmune system and not contagious, but can be life-threatening. There are more than 5 million people with Lupus in the world, with 100,000 additional cases each year”.

“This Lupus Execise is divided into 3 parts, warming up, main exercise & relaxation. The aim of this exercise are the respiratory system and stretching in order to relieve joints stiffness  in Odapus with regular training.  This Lupus Exercise has been tried out for Odapus with the age between 20 to 60 years old. It is easy to follow through the video, whether doing it privately or in a group as we are going to do it together tomorrow”, explained dr. Lucky Angkawidjaja R, M.Pd. AIFO, volunteer consultant from FPOK UPI team.

Furthermore, Dian Syarief shared her tips in “Learning the Happiness Living with Lupus: “Beside the efforts through medication and self fitness, the changes of mindset and life style are the first important steps to realize and accept Lupus as part of life. Odapus have all the opportunities to give meaning and be noble. This two sentences always give me an encouragement: ‘This body can be in pain, but the soul should be healthy’, and ‘Being sick does not mean suffering’, adjusting life with Lupus and understanding the limitations. There’s always positive point in ourselves. Despite our physical limitations caused by Lupus, search and discover the power in yourself. Take the advantage of every possible potential to create without worsening health condition caused by Lupus. Keep moving, keep dancing and keep shining”.

Lupus tak kenal batas

Momen  World Lupus Day (WLD) 2016 kali ini ditangkap oleh RSUP Hasan Sadikin (RSHS) dengan menggagas seminar bertajuk ‘Lupus tak kenal batas’ di aula IPD RSHS 7 Mei yang lalu, bekerja sama dengan SDF. Seminar ini menarik pula minat sahabat Odapus dari luar kota, seperti dari Jabotabek, Cirebon, Purwakarta, dll. Tembang ‘Care for Lupus’ pun segera mengalun dihantarkan dengan manis oleh the LuLo, membuka acara di Sabtu yg cerah itu. Mewakili RSHS, dr. Rachmat Gunadi, SpPD-KR, sampaikan bahwa masih perlu terus lakukan sosialisasi karena hingga kini masih banyak yang belum tahu Lupus. Padahal Lupus dapat mengenai siapapun, tak kenal batasan usia, jenis kelamin, profesi, etnis maupun negara.

Kesadaran dan mau menerima kondisi sebagai penyandang lupus, salah satu faktor penting yg diungkapkan oleh dr. Andri Reza, SpPD-KR Mkes dalam paparannya ‘Hidup Sehat dengan Lupus dari Sudut Pandang Medis’ maupun Dian Syarief yg ajak sahabat Odapus ’Belajar Bahagia Hidup dengan Lupus’. Lebih jauh, dr. Andri jelaskan ciri-ciri sehat ala Odapus, antara lain tidak kambuh dalam kurun waktu beberapa tahun, dapat lakukan aktivitas seperti biasa dan produktif. Namun perlu terus lakukan terapi untuk temukan cara yg paling efektif jalani aktivitas sesuai kondisi masing-masing Odapus. Sedangkan Dian ajak sahabat Odapus tuk ubah pola pikir dan ambil sudut pandang yg tepat untuk bisa menerima kondisi dirinya. Persepsi positif akan lahirkan sikap yg positif pula. Bisa melihat segala sesuatunya menguntungkan dan ada hikmahnya walau fisik terlemahkan, ruang gerak terbatasi dan lingkup kegiatan berubah sekalipun. Akan tetap dapat berkarya tanpa harus memperburuk kondisi kesehatan karena kehadiran sang Lupus.
Puncak acara WLD di RSHS itu ditandai dengan peluncuran Senam Lupus yg langsung disambut antusias oleh para peserta saat waktunya tiba. Tak hanya Odapus namun juga pendamping dan relawan larut dalam keceriaan bersenam Lupus. Tim FPOK UPI sebagai koreografer memandu senam yg berdurasi hampir 30 menit ini, mulai dari pemanasan, latihan inti hingga relaksasi. Semoga dengan lahirnya Senam Lupus ini, sahabat Odapus lebih bersemangat, tak segan bergerak. Karena justru persendian yg sering terasa kaku perlu dilatih supaya lebih lentur. Tentu saja Senam Lupus ini dilakukan secara bertahap sesuai dengan kondisi dan kemampuan masing-masing, tanpa pemaksaan. Senam ini bertujuan pula untuk melatih pernafasan. Senam Lupus ini tak selalu harus dilakukan bersama-sama, meskipun sendirian di rumah, senam tetap dapat dilakukan dengan mengunduh panduannya di link : https://youtu.be/1cuQk33EmlE.
